Content Writer: OSINT & Online Crime
The world of online crime moves fast: new tradecraft, new takedowns, indictments worth reading, research the field should know about. Most of what gets written about it publicly is either marketing or noise. We think there's room for something better, and we're looking for a part-time writer to help us put it into the feed: short, sourced posts on whatever is genuinely interesting in this world and why it matters to the people doing the investigating. The bar for every post is simple: would an analyst forward it to a colleague?
You'd write a few posts a week for Azonic's LinkedIn and X accounts, with a founder reviewing everything before it goes up.
About Azonic
Azonic is a unified intelligence platform for law enforcement and intelligence agencies investigating online crime: the operating system for online-crime investigation. The platform consolidates open-source intelligence search, proprietary intelligence, and third-party investigative tooling, and runs the work across purpose-built modules under analyst oversight, among them an agentic investigator that runs investigative work autonomously, under agency authority, on agency data, with agency oversight. Headquartered in Auckland, New Zealand. Currently in private beta with a small set of national agencies across the Five Eyes.
What you will work on
- Write two or three posts a week for Azonic's LinkedIn and X accounts on whatever caught your attention: a new piece of OSINT tradecraft, an indictment worth reading, a takedown, a clever investigation, a shift in how a criminal ecosystem operates, a piece of research the field should know about.
- Read what the field reads. Indictments, court records, platform transparency reports, threat-intel publications, the OSINT community's own discussion. Turn the parts that matter into posts that cite their sources.
- Join the conversation on X when there is something worth adding. We stay out of politics and we don't dunk on people.
- Work inside a simple review loop: you draft, a founder reviews, you post. Sometimes a draft gets killed. That's normal here.
- Keep a running list of things worth writing about, pulled from the public record.
What we are looking for
- You find this world genuinely interesting: threat-intel reporting, OSINT community discussion, the big indictments and takedowns. Maybe you follow it already, maybe you'd just like an excuse to. Interest matters more than a head start.
- You write plainly. Short sentences, claims that carry their sources, no adjectives standing in for evidence.
- Discretion. There are firm rules about what never gets posted here, and you need to be comfortable with that rather than quietly resenting it.
- Time spent in threat intelligence, trust and safety, investigative research, or reporting on the crime and security beat.
- Experience writing for a professional audience under someone else's editorial standards.
An honest word about the work
Some of the subject matter is grim. Everything comes from the public record, but parts of this world involve the worst of what happens online, and you will be reading about it in detail. We write about it without dramatising it, and victim detail never appears in a post. The numbers do the work. Azonic is also a pre-seed company: the accounts you would write for are small, and nobody is waiting for the next post yet. Expect edits, and expect the occasional draft to die in review. It is a few hours a week held to the same standard as everything else we publish.
NZD 25 to 35 per hour, three to five hours a week, engaged as an independent contractor and invoiced monthly. Auckland with some in-person time suits us best; remote is fine.
